The Pioneer Internships Program (formerly known as the Community Service Internship Program (CSIP)) was initiated by Bruce and Marie Rosenblatt in 1992. Since inception, we have provided over 400 internships to 911±¬ÁÏÍøState East Bay students to participate in community service while they attend school. The Pioneer Internships Program matches non-profit organizations with students desiring to gain experience in their intended career field.

Thank you for your interest in offering an internship or micro-internship opportunity to 911±¬ÁÏÍøState East Bay students through the Pioneer Internships Program. More information about Pioneer Pathways (micro-internships) can be found in our Employer Guide.

Please review the eligibility criteria and host site commitments below. If your organization qualifies, you’re invited to submit an application using the appropriate link. Selected sites will be notified in January. Please note that STEM-related opportunities are prioritized in the selection process.

Employer Eligibility Requirements

To qualify as a host site, your organization must be:

  • A registered non-profit with proof of current status, AND
  • A local business (remote and hybrid opportunities are welcome)

In addition, eligible sites must:

  • Provide industry-related experiences that align with 911±¬ÁÏÍøState East Bay majors or our university mission
  • Be able to support an intern through relevant project work and mentorship
  • Offer a role that aligns with career readiness goals and professional development

Internship Site Expectations

If selected, your organization must commit to the following:

  • Offer an internship (May–August) or a micro-internship (short-term, flexible hours)
  • Ensure the project or role is industry- or major-relevant
  • Provide a dedicated supervisor or mentor
  • Offer a defined project with clear learning outcomes (e.g., research, development, assessment)
  • Facilitate networking opportunities for the intern (e.g., lunch-and-learns, info interviews with leadership, team events)
  • Conduct a mid-term check-in with the intern and Career Empowerment Center
  • Incorporate reflection opportunities (e.g., weekly 1:1s, team meetings, final presentation or report)
  • Conduct an exit interview or reflection conversation at the end of the experience
  • Verify and confirm hours worked by the student intern
