Reminder of Support Resources Available Following Escalation in Middle East
Dear CSU East Bay community,
Like many of you, I have been horrified at the terrible loss of life and violence in Israel and Gaza in the last few days. This historical conflict impacts the entire region in terms of loss of safety and a sense of humanity. I write out of concern for those in our campus community who are directly impacted with worry for the safety of their loved ones and for their communities. I also write out of concern for others who have been impacted by multiple tragedies of historical conflict and natural disasters around the world. Returning genocide to Dafur, war in Ukraine, and earthquakes, floods, and wildfires in Afghanistan, Turkey, and in Maui. These tragedies continue at a furious pace.
Our Office of Diversity, and Center for International Education are reaching out to those whom we know have direct connections to offer support, resources, and an opportunity to meet. For many of us, even without a direct connection to these tragedies, the sense of grief, anxiety, and loss can still impact our well-being. We urge all the members of our community to do the following:
- Seek support when you need it.
- Check in with peers and colleagues.
- Report any conduct of concern.
- Connect with others on campus and in the community.
As with any tragedy that befalls our communities on campus, we ask that you come together to support each other. We are an educational community where care, inclusion, and connection are central to our mission.
Sincerely yours,
Cathy Sandeen
