This is a simple work filled with gusto and the joy of living. In it Plautus satirizes a universal character type who is by no means extinct-the boastful, lying, lecherous, cowardly soldier. He is a man so filled with his own importance that he doesn’t even realize when others are trying to make a fool of him.
