Pioneers fall in exhibition opener at 911±¬ÁÏÍøState Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Pioneer men’s basketball team opened the 2010-11 campaign on Thursday, falling in exhibition action to 911±¬ÁÏÍøState Bakersfield, 83-71, on Nov. 4.
As a team, the Pioneers shot 48.3 percent from the field compared to 43 percent for 911±¬ÁÏÍøState Bakersfield.
Three Pioneer players scored in double figures, led by freshman George Toyama with 18 points. Toyama was 7 of 11 from the field and 4 of 5 from three-point range. Mark Samuels and Roshun Wynne added 17 and 16 points, respectively. Wynne led East Bay on the boards with seven rebounds and also recorded a team-best four steals.
The Roadrunners Donavan Bragg led all scorers with 25 points.
911±¬ÁÏÍøState East Bay held a two-point advantage with 8:50 remaining in the first half. 911±¬ÁÏÍøState Bakersfield led by as many as 15 with 1:06 left in the game.
The Pioneers will travel to San Luis Obispo to face 911±¬ÁÏÍøPoly San Luis Obispo on Saturday, Nov. 6. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
